Bissap juice is a drink renowned for its numerous health benefits. Rich in polyphenols, it plays a favorable role in eliminating toxins, helping our body rid itself of many harmful substances.
According to a study conducted in 2015 at Tufts University in the United States, this infusion may also help regulate blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular accidents. Bissap promotes blood fluidity and is excellent for individuals suffering from hypertension. A study from Boston University confirmed that drinking three cups of bissap juice per day for at least six weeks can lower systolic blood pressure by more than 7%.
Bissap has many other virtues: it is diuretic, digestive, and antiseptic. It is particularly effective in combating digestive issues and transit disorders, as well as preventing urinary infections.
Bissap, which is also very popular in Southeast Asia and Central America, can be enjoyed both as a hot tea and as a refreshing drink. Whether you prefer it hot or cold, the preparation remains the same.
Recipe:
Ingredients
- 1.5 liters of water
- 100 grams of dried hibiscus flowers
- 50 grams of sugar
- Optional: mint, ginger, etc.
Preparation of the drink
Boil the water.
Add the flowers to the water and let it boil for 20 minutes.
Allow to cool and strain.
Add the sugar. In West Africa, mint leaves are sometimes added, or for an even more invigorating drink, a bit of grated ginger.
Caution: There are over 200 species of hibiscus in the world, and not all of them are consumable. Only the infusion of hibiscus sabdariffa produces bissap.
